Electronics Development Supervisor

Powell Industries, a US manufacturer of low- and medium-voltage electrical & electronic equipment for commercial, industrial, and utility systems, is seeking a Supervisor with Electronic Engineering experience as part of an expansion of our Research and Development department.
In this role, you will work with a team of engineers to develop groundbreaking new technologies and product designs, taking initial concepts through to production launch, as well as extension and support of existing components and systems.
Powells products include class-leading vacuum circuit breakers, monitoring, sensing and control electronics, communications and software systems, switchgear, motor control, and safety-focused enclosure systems.
Powells 75-year leadership in vacuum switching technology and arc-flash safety is widely known and in use globally, while being designed and manufactured in multiple facilities in the US, Canada and the UK.
Our R&D facilities located at one of our three Houston-area manufacturing facilities include electrical, mechanical and electronic prototyping facilities and UL-certified high voltage and high current labs, where you will be able to model and validate the performance of your designs in real time.
Powell is hiring an experienced Electronic Development Supervisor for our Research and Development department.
The role of the supervisor is to lead teams of dedicated engineers through the development, validation and technical support of industrial electronic products from concept to full production, as well as continuation engineering on existing product lines.
This role will include liaison with manufacturers, clients and internal production and engineering teams.
Essential Responsibilities Successfully plans, implements, completes, and documents engineering builds.
Demonstrates ability and willingness to work at a conceptual level, developing broad-based plans to drive project success.
Manages schedules, timelines, product performance & costs, and project execution deliverables according to agreed timelines.
Has direct accountability for managing several projects and ensuring project success.
Directs laboratory testing, conducts resulting data analysis, and corrective action plans to address nonconformity revealed by testing.
Is a hands-on manager of projects and people, responsibilities include being able to work at a detailed level technically whilst developing creative solutions to solve complex problems.
Active participation in, and facilitation of, Powells Product Development Process.
Interfaces with outside vendors, consultants, and customers to facilitate NPI activities.
Comprehends, and ensures design compliance with, product regulatory requirements.
Actively collaborates with other departments as required by project tasks.
Develop, and mentor staff as needed.
Actively participate in the development of Internal and External Standards and Codes.
Technical support of all existing products, including direct customer interface Assist in creating and maintaining company policies and procedures.
Assist in creating and managing department budget.
Assist with IRS R&D tax deduction justifications.
Qualifications BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Technology or related area.
Advanced degree a plus.
Minimum 8-10 years of experience in an Engineering role of switchgear and/or controlgear product design.
Minimum 1 year of experience in a leadership role.
Advanced proficiency with computer skills using Oracle, MS Office and MS Project.
Advanced knowledge of Electronic product design and development.
Advanced knowledge of CAD & CAE tools (Altium & Autodesk Inventor preferred) Project management and organizational skills.
Prior use of project management software tools expected Extensive knowledge with demonstrable experience of the following is required:
Microcontrollers applied in embedded industrial products.
Analogue electronics signal processing.
Power supply design & power electronics.
Electronic mechanical construction and design techniques.
Design for manufacture and test.
Advanced knowledge of electronic laboratory test equipment for in-house product design or production testing.
Knowledge of ANSI, IEEE and IEC Standards Familiarity with & knowledge of the following is required:
RTOS principals and operation.
Embedded software development in C.
PC based software development.
Awareness of regulatory standards (ANSI, IEEE, IEC).
Electrical switchgear and control-gear for industrial power control, distribution and protection.
Working Conditions Generally requires working in a climate-controlled environment.
Physical requirements include talking, hearing, reaching, and the ability to use a computer keyboard and mouse.
To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
There will be some work in a laboratory and shop environments and exposure to the elements of our shop.
There will be some work performed in the field with exposure to construction sites or active customer facilities.
